§ 138-1. Condominium conversion restricted.
No building or buildings or part or parts thereof within the Town of Great Barrington may be converted to condominium or cooperative ownership if the rent charged to tenants of said building has been substantially increased during the twenty-four (24) months immediately prior to recording in the Southern Berkshire Registry of Deeds a condominium or cooperative master deed for said conversion. A copy of such master deed shall be submitted to the Board of Selectmen on the day said recording is made.
§ 138-2. Definitions.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN RENT – An increase in excess of one and one-half (1 ½) times the percent of increase in the consumer price index for all urban wage earners ( CPI-U) for the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the rent increase.

Whoever violates any provision of this chapter shall be punished as provided in §1-5.
